Wellness

Activity is vital to your health and longevity. We want you to be stronger for your second half of life.

Our wellness services are focused primarily on group wellness classes that have been researched as effective ways to improve and maintain mobility, reduce our risk for falls, and improve our health as we age.

Tai Chi:

Regularly performing Tai Chi reduces the risk of falls, boosts confidence, and improves strength and balance. This low impact activity focuses on the mind-body connection and reduces the risk of falls through mindful weight transference, situation awareness, and posture. These gentle movements may also relieve stress and ease painful joints. Each session includes warm-up and cool down and is performed in standing position. Kristina has been trained in the Sun style of tai chi and provides direction through the lens of a physical therapist. Class size is limited to 20 participants. Classes are held in various communities throughout the year. Please contact us for our current schedule.

Urban Poling:

Ever wonder why people in Canada and Europe are typically walking with hiking poles in their hands? Activator Poles(TM) by Urban Poling Inc. are designed to amplify the walk or exercise you are doing by activating more muscles and burning more calories. In fact, research shows that when utilized to their full potential, up to 90% of the muscles in our bodies are activated.  Designed by an OT and gerontologist, these poles have specialized hand grips that help engage the core muscles and are given the Ease Of Use stamp of approval by the Arthritis Foundation.

Prosper provides guided walks on local greenways and in local parks. Using the poles while walking allows for improved stamina and has been proven to burn more calories. Kristina also provides group exercise classes using poles. Our POWER UP class provides exercises primarily done in the seated position that are ideal for those with less stability, less endurance and even those who may be living with Parkinson's or MS. Our MORE MUSCLES class is done in standing position as we engage in a moderate-intensity workout set to fast-paced music. The physical activity involved focuses on strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance.

The Otago Exercise Program:

Designed for those who are at high risk for falls or are considered frail, the Otago Exercise Program provides 17 progressive exercises. Falls risk will be assessed by our PT at the beginning and intermittently throughout the program in order to determine safe progression of exercises with a goal of the client safely performing the program independently.

Walk With Ease:

Walk With Ease-Self-Directed Enhanced Program is a community-based physical activity and self-management program developed by the Arthritis Foundation. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, as well as motivational strategies. This 6 week program is lead by our PT and involves one guided walk and two self-directed walks each week. The only physical requirement to participate is that you must be able to stand for at least 10 minutes without an increase in pain. Class time increases with improved endurance up to 45-60 minutes long and is held in various locations. Please contact us for our current schedule/rates.
