Prevention

Our prevention services promote healthy aging. Even if risk for falls and other health conditions increase with age, you can effectively reduce your risk and prosper.

We help you age well by determining what areas of your physical health need more focus. Our credentialed balance and falls PT will use physical performance measures to determine your level of fitness, functional health, and falls risk through the evidence-based data that compares you to your peers.

Age well with our prevention services. We seek to serve adults age 55 or better. Physical therapy provided as a way to prevent injury, pain and impaired function is our proactive approach.

Age Well Assessment: Our Age Well Assessment provides valuable information on your current level of fitness, functional health, and risk for falls. Your detailed report includes graphs, comparative data, interpretation, and an action plan to guide you on your path to age well.

Physical Therapy for Wellness

Activity is vital to your health and longevity. While most people think physical therapy is only done after illness or injury, our approach is proactive rather than reactive. We want you to be stronger for your second half of life.

PT for Wellness is designed around your goals and interests. Maybe that's exploring the trails, working in your garden safely, improving your posture or balance, creating or advancing an exercise routine, or joining one of our group classes. Whatever your goals and interests are, we will tailor your sessions to optimize your health.

Our PT for Wellness service is also available to continue to guide you when traditional therapy ends. We will pick up where your PT left off and provide expert advice on how to continue to safely challenge yourself.

Group Wellness Programs

Kristina became a certified instructor in several group programs that promote healthy aging and reduce the risk for falls. These programs are evidence-based. This means that the effectiveness of the program was tested and has demonstrated a positive impact on older adult wellness and/or the risk for falls.

The Otago Exercise Program:

Designed for those who are at high risk for falls or are considered frail, the Otago Exercise Program provides 17 progressive exercises. Falls risk will be assessed by our PT at the beginning and intermittently throughout the program in order to determine safe progression of exercises. Class is typically 45-60 minutes 2x/week and is held in various locations. Please contact us to request current schedule/rates.

Walk With Ease:

Walk With Ease-Self-Directed Enhanced Program is a community-based physical activity and self-management program developed by the Arthritis Foundation. While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, as well as motivational strategies. This 6 week program is lead by our PT and involves one guided walk and two self-directed walks each week. The only physical requirement to participate is that you must be able to stand for at least 10 minutes without an increase in pain. Class time increases with improved endurance up to 45-60 minutes long and is held in various locations. Please contact us for our current schedule/rates.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention:

Regularly performing Tai Chi reduces the risk of falls, boosts confidence, and improves strength and balance. This low impact activity focuses on the mind-body connection and reduces the risk of falls through mindful weight transference, situation awareness, and posture. These gentle movements may also relieve stress and ease painful joints. Each 60 minute session includes warm-up and cool down and can be performed in sitting and standing positions. Sessions are held 1-2x a week for 6-12 weeks. Class size is limited to 20 participants. Classes are held in various communities throughout the year. Please contact us for our current schedule.
