Are they only used for walking on uneven ground? Do you have to be unsteady to need to use them? Activator Poles(TM) by Urban Poling Inc. are designed to amplify the exercise or walk you are doing by activating more muscles. Using your upper body as you advance the poles in addition to using your legs as you walk increases the number of calories you burn and the number of muscles you are strengthening. Activator Poles are used by fully able bodied people as well as those with movement disorders, instability, and/or pain. Designed by an OT and a gerontologist, these poles have specialized hand grips that are given the EASE OF USE stamp of approval by the Arthritis Foundation. Learn more as you walk with Kristina, a certified instructor in using Activator Poles, a fall prevention specialist, and a physical therapist for nearly 30 years. This class incorporates a warm-up, walk, and cool-down/stretch. Please dress appropriately for the weather and for walking. INTENSITY-LEVEL: Low/Moderate. Must be able to walk/stand independently for at least 30 minutes without need for rest. DURATION: Typically 30-40 minutes of movement (e.g., standing, walking, stretching). AT YOUR OWN RISK: By registering and/or participating in this class, you accept full responsibility for any risks, injuries, or damage, known or unknown, that you might incur due to participation.
